YOU CAN NEVER MAKE TAME DUCKS WILD AGAIN

IBM CHIEF EXECUTIVE TOM WATSON JR  WAS WORRIED THAT HIS EXECUTIVES HAD BECOME TIMID IN THEIR APPROACH.
HE WANTED THEM TO MAINTAIN THEIR INNOVATIVE QUALITIES AND INDEPENDENT OUTLOOK.   HE USED TO TELL THEM A STORY BY THE FAMOUS DANISH PHILOSOPHER  KIERKEGAARD.

WILD DUCKS FLY SOUTH IN FLOCKS EACH FALL.

OUT OF CHARITY HE STARTED FEEDING THEM IN A NEARBY POND.
AFTER A WHILE, SOME OF THE DUCKS NO LONGER BOTHERED TO FLY SOUTH.  THEY WINTERED IN DENMARK ON WHAT THEY FED.  IN TIME THEY FLEW LESS AND LESS.
WHEN THE OTHER WILD DUCKS RETURNED, THESE DUCKS WOULD CIRCLE UP TO GREET THEM BUT THEN GO BACK TO THEIR FEEDING GROUNDS ON THE POND.  AFTER 3 OR 4 YEARS, THEY GREW TO BE LAZY AND FAT, THAT THEY FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO FLY.
KIERKEGAARD DREW HIS POINT - YOU CAN TAME WILD DUCKS BUT YOU CAN NEVER MAKE TAME DUCKS WILD AGAIN.

ONE MAY ALSO ADD THAT THE DUCK WHICH IS TAMED, WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ANYMORE.
